Clinical Toxicology

The UMass Memorial Laboratories Clinical Toxicology Service performs both routine and STAT analyses of drugs and their metabolites in body fluids. The testing provides therapeutic and transplant drug monitoring, emergency drug screening, alcohol and other volatile analyses, drugs of abuse screens and confirmations. The comprehensive drug analyses include a wide variety of compounds including analgesics, antiarrhythmics, bronchodilators, anticonvulsants, psychotropic medications, antihistamines, opiates, sedatives and stimulants. The lab also provides adult and pediatric lead screening and confirmations.

This lab performs more than 100,000 tests annually using a variety of immunoassay analyzers, gas chromatography, GC-mass spectrometers, atomic absorption spectrometers, HPLC, TLC and LC-tandem mass spectrometers. The lab provides 24-hour service to clinicians and other health care clients through its state-of-the-art technology and knowledgeable staff.
