Information Services and Connectivity
The goal of the Information Services Department is to enhance productivity
in all aspects of laboratory testing, from gaining information about
testing, ordering tests and retrieving results. Therefore, the Department
of Hospital Laboratories makes available a variety of connectivity options
for IT solutions with its clients. Based on pre-established criteria,
connectivity to UMass Memorial Hospital Laboratories can be as simple
as a fax machine, as complex as bidirectional interface, or a
convenient as a secure web portal. Connection options include:
- Dedicated Leased Lines provide
direct connection from the client's office to the UMass Memorial
wide-area network
- CPU-CPU Interfaces provide direct connection between the LIS systems
to support high-volume exchange of orders and results
- LRSweb is a web-based order entry system that automates the
ordering of tests, with custom-defined user panels, locally-printed
specimen labels, standing orders and many other features
- WebPCR is a web-based patient
care reporting tool that allows
clients to review and analyze patient results over a fully secure
connection from anywhere on the World Wide Web
- WebLINK is a web-based connectivity tool for provider-office based systems
to send electronic orders and receive electronic results via HL7 transactions
- TelePrinters and Facsimile (FAX) printers
provide a direct, one-way communications for delivering laboratory reports
through an established network connections and standard
telephone lines
