	Minimum Volume	2mL Serum (fasting) & 2 mL Serum (2 hour) & 5 mL Urine (5 hour)
	Remarks	2 tubes required. The patient should fast for eight hours prior to starting test.
	Notes	Allow serum to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum from cells ASAP. The "fasting" serum sample does not have a reference interval since it is used as a blank for the two-hour serum sample. After giving the xylose dose, collect all urine for the next five hours. Record the urine volume on requisition.
